INAUGURAL HOUSTON CORPORATE RUN 5K RAISES FUNDS FOR MEMORIAL PARK, Over 2,000 employees participated in corporate health and wellness event October 23-26
HOUSTON, TX, 2017 - This past October, employees from over 100 companies participated in the inaugural Houston Corporate Run 5K at Memorial Park. Spread over the course of four days, this one-of-a-kind event featured the first known unassigned staggered start, allowing participants to run or walk the 5k on any day they chose between 4-8 p.m. Upon reaching the finish line on Seymour Lieberman Exer-Trail, participants mingled with coworkers and enjoyed snacks and libations from Saint Arnold’s, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Canyon Creek in a large post-race tent that lived at Memorial Park throughout the week.
Nearly 2,000 Houstonians participated the corporate health and wellness event, joining over 250,000 employees participating in other corporate runs across the country. Many of the biggest companies in Houston were represented at Bayou City’s first official corporate run.
A portion of each employee’s registration fees directly benefited Memorial Park Conservancy in its recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey as well as day-to-day Park care and stewardship. In addition, a ‘First Responder Bib’ program was enacted. For each person who registered, a first responder was offered a free entry to the event and access to the post-race hospitality tent which was renamed the “Houston Heroes Post-Race Tent.” Many first responders showed up to participate on one of the four days.
“We’d like to thank the many great companies and their employees who came out to participate in this inaugural event,” said Houston Corporate Run 5K co-founder Adam Levinson. “With all the positive feedback we received, we are incredibly excited that this event will grow in size and be built into many Houston companies as part of their ongoing attention to employee health and wellness. Furthermore, we are thrilled to have raised a significant amount of money for Memorial Park and to have allowed many first responders to participate.”
“We were thrilled to host the Houston Corporate Run this year” said Cara Rudelson, COO of Memorial Park Conservancy. “The funds raised are critical to caring for Houston’s favorite greenspace and we look forward to hosting this event next year at the Park.”
Awards for the event were based on a number of different categories including fastest overall company, most number of employee participants from a company and fastest male and female over and under 40. This year’s corporate winners included Invesco, who won the award for most number of employee participants, and Tenaris, who took home the trophy for the fastest overall company.
The 2018 event will take place on October 22-25 at Memorial Park. Sponsorship opportunities are available in addition to team participation. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 832.974.1690
